Issue 1127: 25th June 2026

What a Week!!

I am extremely proud of, and impressed by, the way our pupils and students have coped with this week’s exceptionally hot weather. They have shown great resilience and maturity by following our guidance, staying hydrated, seeking shade where possible and continuing to work hard despite the challenging conditions. Thank you also to you, as parents/carers, for ensuring your children arrived at school with water bottles and appropriate sun protection.

Due to the forecast of even higher temperatures for tomorrow, and further to my letter sent earlier today, school will close early tomorrow at 12.30pm. This will help to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, students, staff and families. We appreciate your understanding and support with this arrangement.

The good news is that the weather is expected to return to more typical June temperatures next week, so all pupils and students should return on Monday wearing their normal school uniform, including their tie.  Thank you, in advance, for your support.

Changes to the School Day

As I shared with you earlier today, we are excited about the forthcoming changes to our school day, which has been carefully designed to enhance both learning and the wider school experience for our pupils and students. The revised structure of the day will provide a more consistent learning experience for Year 7, reduce disruption to lessons by introducing a single lunchtime for all year groups, and create a longer lunch break, giving pupils and students more time to eat, socialise and take part in clubs and enrichment activities.

Importantly, the overall school day will remain unchanged, continuing to run from 8.35am to 3.05pm. To help pupils and students become familiar with the new routine before the new academic year, we will introduce the revised structure for the final two weeks of this term, beginning on Monday 6th July. We are looking forward to the positive impact these changes will have on learning, wellbeing and the wider opportunities available to all pupils and students.

Clear the Air - Youth Vaping Campaign

Clear the Air is an Essex County Council campaign supporting parents and carers to talk with children aged 10 to 12 about vaping. Before misinformation or social pressure becomes established.  Parents can explore information via an AI-powered chat tool or by scrolling animated key facts: Clear the air about vaping

 The campaign focuses on:

  • challenging common myths children hear about vaping
  • addressing how seeing vaping online or among other young people can make it seem normal, even though most children do not vape
  • supporting early, calm conversations at home
  • helping children feel confident, not confused

And Finally….

Have a great weekend when it arrives and enjoy the cooler weather.
