Parents' Forum

The Parents’ Forum was set up in 2009 as an innovative way to consult with parents and engage with their views. Anyone is welcome to attend meetings, which take place each half-term with the Headteacher.

Purpose of the Parents' Forum

Our policy has always been to seek very strong home-school partnerships, providing the best possible start in life for your child.

For many years, educational research has supported the conclusion that parental involvement in a child’s education has a hugely positive impact on students, parents and communities alike.

Parental involvement results in several school and community benefits such as improved teacher morale resulting from knowing that parents can better understand and support their work. As well as increased support and reputation from families for both the school and local communities.

Benefits for Students

Students benefit from higher grades and exam results, better attendance and improved homework (home learning) standards. Students have a more positive attitude and display improved behaviour and have greater enrolment in post-secondary education.

Benefits for Parents

Parents have a greater understanding of the school’s role and ways of working, which in turn results in increased confidence and understanding in the school’s role, in themselves as parents as well as in their ability to help their children learn at home. Overall this results in a greater likelihood that the parents will enrol in continuing education to advance their own schooling.

    Parent-Teacher Association

The Sweyne Park School Parent-Teacher Association is a vital part of school life.  It helps raise money for the school (recent purchases have included a new minibus and state-of-the-art ICT facilities in our Media/Drama block), as well as helping out at various school events, such as Parents’ Evenings.

As well as helping the school, being part of the PTA is a great way to meet other parents so, if you would like to get involved, please contact Richard Bradley, rbradley@sweynepark.com. You can do as little or as much as you wish to – we will just be pleased to welcome you!
