Issue 1116: 20th March 2026

Lockdown

As we are required to do periodically we will be practising our Lockdown Drill next Wednesday, 25th March during Period 2.  All our pupils and students have been informed during assembly and reminded of the procedures involved and our expectations.

While we would clearly hope to never have to use any of our emergency procedures it is important that we practice these should the need arise at any point in the future.

Mobile Phones

As you will know from my letter sent earlier this week, in order to meet the Government’s requirements to make schools “mobile phone free environments” we are requiring all main-school pupils, who bring their phones into school, to put them in their lockers before the start of the school day.

All lockers will be covered by our CCTV cameras to ensure security.  If there is a problem with your child’s locker then please do contact Pupil Services via pupilservices@sweynepark.com who will be very happy to assist.  Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

Lunch Slips

Please can I kindly remind you of the need to ensure that your child’s catering account on Scopay is topped up regularly.  Recently, we have seen an increase in the number of lunch slips needing to be issued during the lunch period by our Pupil Services team.  Keeping accounts in credit really does help the whole lunch process run more smoothly for all pupils and students.

Thank you, in advance, for your support with this.

If you are experiencing any difficulties accessing or using Scopay, please do not hesitate to contact our team at pupilservices@sweynepark.com.

Achievements Outside of School

We very much enjoy hearing about all the exciting things our pupils and students do outside of school.  We know that so many of them are involved in clubs and charities and make a fantastic contribution to our community.

If your son/daughter has something they would like to share, please do contact us on pupilservices@sweynepark.com, so that we can include a short article, and where possible, accompanying photographs in the Sweyne Park Times.

This can relate to a sporting success, charity work, a project they have been involved in or an interesting experience they would like to share.  We really do want to celebrate all the fantastic achievements of our pupils and students.  Thank you, in advance, for your support.

And Finally….

Enjoy the weekend.

Official Judging Panel Duties: RS Young People’s Book Prize

Our Book Clubs have once again taken on the exciting role of an official Judging Panel for the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize. Throughout this term, students have been busy reading, discussing, and reviewing all the shortlisted science books.

This week, both Book Clubs came together for a special debate to decide which title would be crowned our overall winner. The final decision was between two outstanding books:

The Animal Body Book by Jess French and The Wild Life of Dinosaurs & Other Prehistoric Animals by Mike Barfield & Paula Bossio. Both were incredibly strong contenders and sparked some brilliant discussion.

Huge credit goes to all our students for engaging in a lively, thoughtful, and respectful debate. It was particularly inspiring to see some of our younger members speaking with such confidence and enthusiasm, matching the insight and eloquence of our older students.

With support from our guest chair, Alexis, the group chose The Animal Body Book as our winner. Here’s what students had to say about it:

• Ava, Yr11: “I loved the many life-sized comparisons and the almost X-ray diagrams showing the animals’ anatomy.”
• Eleanor, Yr7: “The diagrams are realistic, but not in a way that triggers phobias!”
• Jamie, Yr7: “Great variety of animals and easy to read.”
• Emily, Yr11: “I like how there are large diagrams to demonstrate key ideas and smaller ones to show other species with similar features.”
• Hannah, Yr11: “The anatomy is broken down in such an easy-to-understand way.”
• Jessica, Yr7: “Lots of scientific facts and pictures that aren’t too realistic to put you off!”
• Katie, Yr11: “I liked how the book separates the structures so it’s easier to see.”

Well done to everyone involved for their enthusiasm, insight and commitment—what a fantastic achievement!
