The Importance of Attendance

Regular attendance at secondary school is essential for all pupils’ and students’ academic progress. Every lesson matters, and missing even a small number of days can disrupt their learning and make it harder to keep up with the curriculum. Whilst we do, of course, appreciate that children may sometimes feel unwell, before deciding to keep them at home, it can be useful to the helpful NHS guide Is my child too ill for school?. This website provides clear advice to help you make the best decision for your child’s education.

Extra-curricular Clubs

I wanted to take the opportunity to remind you all that we have a rich variety of extra-curricular opportunities for pupils of all year groups both before and after school.  These are a great way to pursue a personal passion, meet new people and build social skills. You can find the full list of these clubs by clicking here.

Road Safety

Given that the clocks will go back at the end of this month and that the nights are getting darker much earlier, please can I ask you to spend some time discussing the importance of road safety with your children. Pupils should not assume they have been seen by drivers and, where possible, should always cross at designated crossing points.  Children coming to school on bikes, should take care and remember how important it is to wear a helmet.  Can I also take the opportunity to ask you to remind them about always being respectful when cycling, and to be considerate to pedestrians and other road users.  Thank you!

Our Facebook Page

I am delighted to share that our school Facebook page has now reached 1,000 followers!  Thank you to everyone who has supported us online. If you haven’t already, please head over and take a look – it’s a great way to stay connected as we share our latest news, achievements, and important information with our school community.  You can find us at The Sweyne Park School.

Table Tennis England

Back in July, Cooper was invited to go to Table Tennis England in Sheffield and train with the British Paralympic Team.

In August, they contacted us to invite Cooper back for coaching two days a month in the “Future Pathways Programme” – this is an amazing experience and an incredible opportunity!

Cooper is hoping that they will be assessing and classifying him next month, whereby he will be told if he meets full criteria and what ‘classification’ he will come under.

Whatever the outcome, the feedback has been so positive from the England coaches, and Cooper has already grown so much in confidence, technique, skill, and overall performance. We’re hoping that in the future Cooper will be asked to join the 1st squad, competing amongst some of the world’s best players and representing our country.

Whatever happens, we’re so proud of Cooper, and we can’t wait to see where his Table Tennis journey will take him.

What do you do when you're not in school?

We would love to hear about your hobbies, interests and achievements...
