Uniform Checks

Whilst the vast majority of our pupils look very smart in their school uniform, we have recently noticed a new “trend” whereby a number of girls are wearing fluffy pastel coloured socks over their tights.  This is clearly in direct contravention of our Uniform Policy which states that pupils and students must wear “black ankle socks or black/flesh coloured tights – leggings, white socks and/or knee length sock are not allowed”.

I would also like to take the opportunity to remind you that skirts must not be rolled up at the waist and should be worn at knee length.  In terms of jewellery, rings are not permitted and only stud earrings are allowed.

In order to maintain the high standard of uniform we expect, next week we will be undertaking uniform checks.  Please can I ask you to take the time to review our Uniform Policy and discuss the requirements with your child(ren).  Thank you for your support with this.

Key Dates

I would like to take the opportunity to remind you of the following upcoming events:

Thursday 26th January  Year 11 Parents’ Evening – in person
Thursday 2nd February  Year 7 Parents’ Evening
w/c 6th February Year 12 Aspirations Week
20th & 21st February Year 9 DTPM Vaccinations
23rd February  Year 9 Options Evening

I will write with more detail about each event nearer the time, but for now, please do make a note in your diary!

Free School Meals

As you may be aware, parents on low incomes, and receiving certain benefits, are entitled to claim Free School Meals for their child(ren). Full details, and an application form are available online at www.essex.gov.uk/education. Alternatively, if you think you may be eligible, but want to find out more, please do ring Pupil Services at the school, and they will be happy to advise you and help with an application. If your claim is successful, a set amount will be credited to your child’s account in our cashless catering system, which ensures anonymity. It is well worth having – even if your child only uses it to buy a drink/snack to supplement a packed lunch!

FORTNITE

As children are ever more involved in games online, it can be difficult for parents and teachers to keep up to date with all of the features of different games and platforms. The game Fortnite Battle Royale (usually just called Fortnite) has become extremely popular among children and young people, but many adults have had little to do with it and therefore little understanding. Internetmatters.org have produced this guide which is helpful for adults to understand this game and the terms used for different aspects of it.

What do you do when you're not in school?

We would love to hear about your hobbies, interests and achievements...

If you have any stories and/or photos that you would like to share, please contact us at pupilservices@sweynepark.com
