Issue 991: 6th January 2023

Happy New Year

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your family and friends and that the New Year has started well for you.  It was good to welcome our pupils and students back to school yesterday, albeit for a short week!  Can I take the opportunity to remind you that the school day starts at 8.35 am and ends at 3.05 pm.  Over recent months we have observed slippage in terms of punctuality at the start of the day and dismissal at the end and so, during the Christmas holidays a bell has been installed to mark these times and to provide clarity and consistency and assist with the smooth running of the school day.

Year 11 Parents’ Evening

As discussed at the recent meeting of the Parents’ Forum and during the Welcome to Year 11 event, and in light of the value we place on parental engagement, the Year 11 Parents’ Evening on 26th January will be held in person. Year 11 is a crucial time for our pupils and we place great importance on being able to provide personalised feedback following the recent mock examinations.  Year 11 pupils will be issued with appointment sheets at the beginning of next week and will be reminded to speak to their teachers to arrange meetings.  Please do encourage your child(ren) to make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible.  We will very much look forward to welcoming you into school for this important event.

Awards Presentation to Alumni Students

Last night we hosted our Awards Evening for last year’s Year 13 students.  It was an incredibly special occasion and wonderful to see them to have the opportunity to recognise their amazing achievements and contributions to the school.  These students join our growing number of alumni on whom we regularly call to share their journeys and career paths with our current pupils and students as part of our Aspirations programme.  Our experience shows that contact with recent ex-students has significant impact on our current pupils and students in guiding them to make their own informed choices for the future.  Furthermore, it is always a pleasure to keep in touch with our alumni students.

What do you do when you're not in school?

We would love to hear about your hobbies, interests and achievements...
