Issue 984: 4th November 2022

I wanted to remind you that, as scheduled in the school calendar, Friday 18th November is a non-pupil day, and, for that week only, school will finish at 3.05 pm on Thursday 17th November.

Road Safety

Now that the clocks have changed and the nights are getting darker much earlier, please can I ask you to spend some time discussing the importance of road safety with your children. Pupils should not assume they have been seen by drivers and, where possible, should always cross at designated crossing points.  Children coming to school on bikes, should take care and remember how important it is to wear a helmet.  Can I also take the opportunity to ask you to remind them about always being respectful when cycling, and to be considerate to pedestrians and other road users.  Thank you!

Youth Bus

I am pleased to confirm that we have secured a weekly visit from a local Youth Work charity called “Bar ‘n’ Bus”, who will be bringing their mobile youth centre to us, starting next week.  The mobile centre, together with two youth workers, will join us every Wednesday lunchtime, and will provide a welcoming space for pupils to sit, chat and engage in positive activities during their break, as well as being a point of contact for young people to speak to Bar ‘n’ Bus staff who also run sessions outside of school time in the local community.

Mobile Phones

I have been incredibly impressed with the mature and responsible way in which the vast majority of our pupils have embraced our new Mobile Phone policy.  It has been lovely to see groups of pupils sitting and talking to each other, with some pupils even playing card games during their break and lunch times.

Whilst we are still within a period of transition, pupils who are in breach of the Policy will continue to receive polite reminders, however, we will shortly be moving to a position whereby if a pupil is in breach, their phone will be confiscated, held by a senior member of staff, and returned at the end of the day.  As previously stated, I will write again to confirm when this approach will come into effect.

Parents’ Forum

We greatly value the opportunity to work with parents and carers, and the home/school relationship is very important to us.  We always welcome constructive feedback from families, and are proud of our “open door” policy.  In order to provide a formal environment for feedback and discussion, we hold our Parents’ Forum meetings every term.  These meetings allow parents/carers the opportunity to meet with me and a member of the Senior Leadership Team to discuss issues related to all aspects of school life.

Our next meeting is scheduled for 5.00 pm on Tuesday 22nd November.  If you would like to attend, then please email Mr Bradley on
