Open Evening

Next Tuesday (27th September) we will be hosting our annual Open Evening from 6.00 pm.  In order to allow staff sufficient time to prepare for the event, please remember that school will be closed from 12.30pm, and pupils and students will be dismissed at the end of Period 3.  Thank you, in advance, to the many pupils and students who have volunteered to return and help on the evening acting, as always, as our greatest ambassadors.  School will resume as normal at 8.35 am on Wednesday 28th September.

New Wellbeing Hub

During the Summer, we were very lucky to have a new Wellbeing Hub constructed.  The Hub will provide a quiet space for small meetings and counselling to take place as part of the schools’ wider commitment to wellbeing and mental health.  We are very fortunate, that the building project was funded by Sanctuary Housing and built by Hill Construction to an incredibly high standard.  Some of our former pupils were even part of the team!  We are grateful to both Sanctuary and Hill Construction for their generosity.  The Hub will be a great asset to the school, it is a really lovely, calm and peaceful environment and will be very well used by our school community.

New Audio Equipment for the Music Department

The Music department has recently benefitted from some fantastic new equipment kindly donated by Monitor Audio.  Monitor Audio is a Rayleigh based firm specialising in high quality audio equipment.  The department is delighted with the equipment and the fantastic sound quality that they will be able to utilise in their lessons.  Sincere thanks, Monitor Audio, for your generosity!

Lost Property

After only three weeks of the new school year, we have accumulated a mountain of lost property.  Within this there is an awful lot of school uniform/PE kit, some of which appears to be brand new.  If your son/daughter has lost or mislaid any items, please ask them to go to Pupil Services to see if it has been handed in.  Given the economic climate, I am sure that no family will want to incur unnecessary additional costs and, as always, to assist us in returning any items quickly to their rightful owner, please do ensure that clothing is clearly named.

And Finally

Have a nice weekend

Honouring HM Queen Elizabeth II

We were incredibly proud to discover that one of our former pupils, El-Leigh Neale, was selected to be part of the naval party pulling Queen Elizabeth’s gun carriage during her state funeral at the beginning of this week. El-Leigh is a PT Instructor (Warrant Officer Class 2) in the Royal Navy and, since joining the Navy in 2017, has served on both HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Forth..

El-Leigh was among 15 female naval officers who were chosen because of their strength to be the first female officers, in history, to take on such a role. El-Leigh said it was an honour and a privilege to be part of such an historic event, and to have the opportunity to honour Her Majesty in this way.

Mick Davison Award – Productivity and Resilience

Back in 2010, to mark the “momentous” mile-stone of my 45 years in teaching, I donated a sum of money to the school to cover an award to be presented annually to a pupil who the school deemed “to have markedly achieved against the odds”.

Over the last 12 years this award has only been presented to four pupils – Luke in 2011, Bethany 2017, Dylan 2021, and Cordellia (Yr.9) this year.

The citation on Cordellia’s trophy reads, for “Productivity and Resilience” which, I think, aptly sums up her attitude and character!
