Issue 977: 09th September 2022

Welcome Back

I do hope that you all enjoyed a restful summer holiday and had the chance to catch up with friends and family.  It was lovely to welcome all year groups into school this week, there has been a real sense of positivity and excitement, especially amongst our new Year 7 pupils.  We have a busy term coming up with various events taking place, and I will write again next week with key dates for your diary.  However, please do note that we will be holding our annual Open Evening on Tuesday 27th September and, as in previous years, school will finish at 12.30 pm that day so as to allow staff time to prepare for the evening.

At the start of the new school year I thought it would be useful to remind parents/carers of our Uniform Policy, and to provide clarification in relation to a number of queries we have received this week.  Please click here to access information about our expectations around uniform.  If you do have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.    Should you have any problems in obtaining the correct uniform, then please do contact us, in the strictest of confidence, via for help and support.

Home School Agreement

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the MS Teams Form to confirm receipt and understanding of the Home School Agreement, which was emailed to you last week.  The Agreement sets out the part that parents/carers, pupils and staff should play in ensuring that all of our pupils succeed at all levels.  If you have not already done so I would be grateful if you would please take the time to read through the Agreement and click here to complete the Form.  A copy of the Agreement can also be viewed on our website within the “Key Information” area.

Pupil Absence Line

Please can I remind parents/carers of the need to use our dedicated pupil absence line when reporting your child(ren) absent – 01268 780293.  If the line is engaged, please do leave a clear voicemail.  We also have a specific email address: Please can I ask that you use these contact details, so as to free up our main switchboard (01268 784721) to take calls relating to all other aspects of school life.

Access to the School Site

In the event that you need to come onto the school site during the day, please do so via our entrance on Sir Walter Raleigh Drive. This will mean that you will not have to walk across the playground during busy lunch and break times, and will support us in maintaining our high standards of safeguarding.

Please can I remind parents/carers that the school gates (including the Bridle Path) will not be opened before 3.05 pm each day.  This is to ensure the safety of all of our pupils and students.  For the same reason, the Bridle Path gate will be locked again at 4.00 pm.  Please can you make a note of this, especially if your child(ren) is attending an after-school club/activity.

Parking on Sir Walter Raleigh Drive

Please can I remind parents/staff to be mindful when dropping off and collecting your child(ren) from school, and not to park on the road blocking residents’ driveways or causing an obstruction.  We have had occasions this week where the school bus has not been able to access the bus bay area on Sir Walter Raleigh Drive, which has caused a significant amount of congestion and disruption to our neighbours.  Please can I ask that, where possible, you encourage your child(ren) to walk to and from school, and if it is necessary to drive, please do be considerate and respectful to our neighbours.
