Issue 974: 8th July 2022

  • HEADLINES

Thank you to everyone for your amazing support and cooperation this week with the new arrangements for parking at the beginning and the end of the school day.  I am pleased to say that these have made a real and positive difference to our site security, and the safety of our pupils.  Please can I ask that you remind your child(ren) of the importance of being punctual to school.  All of the gates (including the bridal path gate) are shut at 8.30 am, and pupils should be on site before then, ready to begin morning registration at 8.35 am.  Should they arrive after this time, please remind them that they will need to sign in at Pupil Services.

Last day of Term

As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to confirm that school will finish for the summer at 12.30 pm on Wednesday 20th July.  Our School Council is planning to organise a fundraising event to support the Ukraine. Therefore, this last day of term will be a non-school uniform day, and it would be wonderful if pupils and students could wear blue and yellow to support this cause.  Pupils/students will be asked to make a minimum donation of £1 towards this special cause.

COVID Update

I am sorry to say that we have seen a spike in the number of COVID cases this week, which have resulted in a significant level of staff absence and cover lessons for pupils.  This has also meant that many staff have been unable to attend special events as planned, including the Summer Concert on Monday and the Year 13 Celebration Evening last night.  While the timing of this is incredibly unfortunate, I am sure you will all join me in wishing our colleagues well, and hoping that we can get to the end of term without any periods of partial closure, it has come close this week!  With this in mind, as always, please do keep an eye on your emails, for important and urgent information.

Callum wins the 300m race

Congratulations to Callum for winning the 300m race, and coming 3rd in the recent District Sports.

Callum also represents Southend Athletics Club and came 1st in the discus, 1st in the relay, 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m. This was a competition that took place on 3rd July, which was against other under 13’s from many clubs. He gained many points for his team.

Callum is passionate about sports and continues to be involved in many sports for the school. He regularly attends training before and after school.

CATERLINK – NEW CATERING TARRIF

Please see the link below, to the latest version of our catering tariff for the next school year. Unfortunately, inflation has increased costs and the overall tariff has increased.

The Meal Deal will always represent the very best and healthy value for money. We recommend this as the main purchase option.  The value of the free school meal allowance will increase to match the meal deal at £2.50.

At this point we aim to keep the new tariff for the whole of the school year but we must reserve the right to review at February half term.
