Unaccompanied Children on Site

We have, on a few occasions recently, had incidents whereby pupils have brought their primary school aged siblings on to site, unaccompanied by their parents/carers, during/after the school day.  Please can I remind you that we absolutely cannot accommodate non-pupils on site, unless accompanied by an adult who may be attending school for a meeting, as we are not in a position to safeguard them.

Access to the School Site

As I explained in my email of 22nd June, from Monday 4th July, you will see the changes to when and where parents/carers may access the school site.  Of particular significance is that there will be no access at all to the site by car to either drop off or collect pupils, between the hours of 7.45 am and 4.00 pm.  You will, however, be able to use the bus bay in Sir Walter Raleigh Drive, for the purpose of dropping off pupils at school, but restrictions on space means that this will not be a waiting zone, and we ask that you do not park there.  You may find convenient places to park in the surrounding roads, but please do be mindful and considerate of our neighbours.

Other changes include a keypad/intercom system for operating the current automatic barrier and an electronic system for signing in/out when you visit us.

We are keen to maintain our “open door” policy, and welcome visitors to the school, but please do, wherever possible, contact us first to make an appointment.  Our staff are always happy to meet with parents/carers at a mutually convenient time.

Endings and Beginnings!

Last night our Year 11 pupils attended their Prom at the Rayleigh Club.  I am delighted that after the last few years, they were able to have the opportunity to celebrate their time at Sweyne Park with their friends, especially after what has been an incredibly difficult few years. I am hoping to be able to share with you some photos of this special occasion in due course.

After having the privilege of meeting with the parents/carers of our future Year 7s last night, it was wonderful to welcome the pupils into school for their Induction Day today.  The pupils had the chance to meet their tutors, enjoy some lessons, and experience a taste of what exciting times they have ahead of them, here at Sweyne Park.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank our newly appointed Senior Prefects.  They have done a superb job in supporting at both our Induction Evening, and Induction Day today.  They have been true role models and thoroughly deserve the status that they were awarded on Monday.  Thank you also, to all the parents/carers who were able to join us at the Prefects Ceremony, it was lovely to see you all.

As is always the case at the end of the school year, we do have a number of staff members who are retiring or moving on, and so, on Thursday this week, we welcomed our new staff to the school, for their own Induction Day.  I will, of course, share further details about our leavers and starters shortly.

Into Film Awards

Congratulations to Tilly (Year 10) and her PQA Drama Group for winning the Best Short Film (12 – 15 years) category at the Into Film Awards this week.  Into Film celebrates young filmmaking talent across the UK.

Tilly and her friends thoroughly enjoyed their “red carpet experience” and were delighted to receive their well-deserved award from Stacey Dooley.  Tilly also met Sue Perkins, Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch and was interviewed about her achievements for Sky.

Well done to Tilly for winning such a prestigious award, which is the culmination of an awful lot of hard work, commitment and passion.  We are all incredibly proud of her.

Please see the link below, to the latest version of our catering tariff for the next school year. Unfortunately, inflation has increased costs and the overall tariff has increased.

The Meal Deal will always represent the very best and healthy value for money. We recommend this as the main purchase option.  The value of the free school meal allowance will increase to match the meal deal at £2.50.

At this point we aim to keep the new tariff for the whole of the school year but we must reserve the right to review at February half term.
