Year 11 and Year 13 Revision School

The external exams are now in full swing, and we are incredibly proud of how well our pupils and students are managing themselves so far.  When we return after the half-term break, we will be running our programme of Revision School.  Please can I ask that you encourage and support your child(ren) to attend all the relevant revision sessions until they have taken the exam in that subject.  Thank you, in advance for your continued support.

Cashless Payment System

You will have recently received an email with details of how to create an account for our new cashless payment system Tucasi (also known as SCOPAY). Thank you to everyone who has already registered with Tucasi, but if you have not already done so, please can I ask that you register over the course of next week. When we return after the half-term break, we will no longer be using ParentPay, however please do rest assured that all balances will be automatically transferred over to Tucasi.

Edible Cannabis

We have recently been made aware by the police of the increasing use in Essex of “cannabis edibles”, which are targeted at children.  These are sweets that contain cannabis and are often sold in packets that closely resemble brand-name sweets.  Please see the article below for further details about this, including the signs to look for.

Increasing use in Essex of "cannabis edibles"

We have recently been made aware by the police of the increasing use in Essex of “cannabis edibles”, which are targeted at children.

These are sweets that contain cannabis and are often sold in packets that closely resemble brand-name sweets.  These are very dangerous, because they take 2-3 hours to take effect which significantly increases the risk of overdose because children eat them in large numbers, as they would when eating normal sweets.

Signs to look out for on sweet packets are white warning triangles, an 18+ sign, an American flag; the name of the sweets will be similar to a brand name, but with a subtle change.  These products are being sold through street drug dealers but also some shops – however, are also illegal as well as dangerous, so please keep an eye on the sweets your child have if you have not bought them yourself.

The Big Jubilee Read-a-Thon

To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we invite you to take part in our SPS Big Jubilee Read-a-Thon!
The challenge is to read seven books – to represent each of the seven decades the Queen has reigned. You might like to choose books either set or published in each of those seven decades or books set in the Commonwealth , or even books written by authors from the Commonwealth countries – the choice is yours!

Check out the display in the Library to help you choose the books you might want to read and collect your Read-a-Thon sheet or download here!

You have up to 15th July to complete the Read-a-thon, with positive points and prizes awarded for completing!
