Farewells to Staff

As is always the case at the end of term, we have a number of staff moving on to pastures new.  Firstly, Mr Chisholm, Teacher of English, who joined us in September, will be relocating to Scotland and also Ms Dixon, Head of Business Studies and Economics, will be taking up a post at a new school.  We are pleased to have appointed two new staff to replace them, Ms Fordham will join the English Department after the Easter break, and Ms Bevan will be the new Head of Department, replacing Ms Dixon, in May.  I am sure you will join me in wishing Mr Chisholm and Ms Dixon every happiness in the future.

Changes to COVID-19 Guidance

As you will be aware, after today, the Government will no longer be providing free Lateral Flow Tests, and the Secretary of State for Health has now set out the next steps for living with COVID-19.  In summary, the guidance advises that:

  • adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature.
  • children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can go back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend.
  • adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice will be 3 days.

Please can I remind you that if your child is unwell, with COVID-19 or any other illness, please find the dedicated Pupil Absent line (01268 780293) before 8.30am on each day of the absence, unless advised otherwise by our Attendance Team.

Governor Vacancy

We are incredibly fortunate to have a highly committed Local Governing Body (LGB) who work tirelessly to support the school.  We have recently received the resignation of one of our longest standing Governors, who has decided to retire.   Therefore, we currently have a vacancy on the LGB and ideally are seeking to appoint a new member with a background and experience in Human Resources.  Our Governors commit to serving a 4 years tenure and attend a maximum of 3 Full LGB meetings every year, plus half-termly committees in either Standards & Curriculum or Resources.  In addition to these, all Governors monitor specific areas of school life, in order to offer challenge and support, and hold the school to account.  If you feel you could dedicate your time and have the relevant experience, please visit our website to download an Essex Application Form. Happy Easter

It has been a relief to survive the whole of the Spring term without the need to revert to any full or partial whole school periods of remote learning.  Whilst I am aware that COVID-19 has continued to cause disruption to pupils’ learning, due to both pupil and staff absence, I am hoping that two-week break and hopefully warmer weather will lead to an improved situation next term.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and understanding and wish you a very Happy Easter and enjoyable family break.
