Acceptable Use of Mobile Phones

You may have heard in the media that there has been a lot of discussion nationally around the use of mobile phones, and whether or not these should be universally banned. At Sweyne Park, however, we have always encouraged the “reasonable use” of mobile phones by our pupils and students. With all the necessary restrictions required during the peak of the pandemic, our focus has been somewhat diverted from enforcing our agreed policy.  Now that the situation is easing, after half-term we will be having a drive on the responsible use of mobile phones, when and where these devices may be used.  To prepare for this this, the policy will once again be shared with pupils at the start of term, and you will be able to see any incidents of misuse via Go4Schools.  Heads of Year will be closely monitoring this and applying sanctions where necessary.  As a reminder to you as parents/carers, our Acceptable Use of Mobile Phones policy provides that:

  1. phones may be used in designated areas only. These will be in the canteen and outside of the building before school, at break-time, at lunchtime and after schoo At all other times, phones must be kept in bags or lockers and not in pockets.

  1. phones must not be taken into PE changing room

In the event of the misuse of a mobile phone then sanctions will be imposed, this may, ultimately result in the pupil/student not being allowed to bring their phone to school for a week.  In such circumstances where parents/carers feel uncomfortable about their child coming to and from school without means of contact, there will be the option of handing the phone into Pupil Services at the start of the day, and collecting it at the end of the school day.

Given the amount of face-to-face learning that pupils/students have lost over the last 18 months or so, it is crucial that all and any distractions are avoided and removed from the classroom so as to minimise disruption.  Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Appointments with Staff

It is lovely that we are, once again, able to invite and receive visitors into school, and we are very proud of our open-door policy.  However, please be aware that if you do need to speak to a member of staff, you must make an appointment, in advance, for a mutually convenient time.  Please can I remind you that you cannot simply arrive at school and expect to meet with a member of staff.  The vast majority of our pastoral team have a full timetable, and consequently meetings will need to be arranged outside of teaching time/existing commitments.  If you do need to make an appointment, please contact our Main Reception in the first instance, who will be happy to help you.

Essex Immunisation Service
