Operation Sceptre - Knife Arch

Next Monday, 15th November, as in previous years, and as part of Essex Police’s “Operation Spectre”, our Schools’ Liaison Officer will be bringing a Knife Arch in to school to help make pupils become more knife aware. Officers will be on hand to answer any questions, and will be distributing information leaflets which you may also find interesting. There is, of course, no expectation that any of our pupils are obliged to walk through the arch, it is simply intended to help raise awareness of knife crime. I have no doubt that all of our pupils will act with the greatest respect and maturity, and help to support this important initiative.

Consultation on change of shirt colour

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our consultation on a potential change to white shirts for Years 7 – 11.  Feedback from the overwhelming majority of parents/carers was that the current blue shirts are preferred, for a wide variety of reasons. Therefore, blue shirts will remain as part of our uniform for Years 7 – 11.  For full details of our uniform policy for Key Stages 3 & 4, please click here.

Coming Soon

Just as a reminder, the additional Parents’ Evening for Year 11 will be taking place next Thursday.  If you have not already done so, please do book your appointments via the SchoolCloud.

On the following day, Friday 19th November, the school will be closed to all pupils and students for our annual November staff training day.

Message from the School Crossing Patrol Service

Essex County Council ECC has asked us to let you know that as of Monday 15th November, the School Crossing Patrol Officer who operates on the London Road, will be wearing a recording body camera for a period of up to 4 weeks.  This is part of a trial, which, if successful, may be rolled out across Essex.

We have been informed that during the trial, should there be an incident, the footage will be reviewed by a project team at ECC, and will not be visible to the Patrol Officer.  If there are any incidents involving drivers, pedestrians or other road users, the footage will be transferred to a secure system which ECC will be able to access and, if necessary, forward on to Essex Police for further investigation.  Otherwise, any footage that is not required as evidence will be deleted.

If you have any queries in relation to this trial, please contact Essex County Council at schoolcrossingpatrol@essex.gov.uk.

And Finally …

Have a lovely weekend!

  • Poetry Winners

Congratulations to Harry, who is this year’s winner of the Library’s Annual Poetry Competition, with his poem, Arisu.

As usual, it was difficult to pick a winner amongst the fantastic poems received, but we felt Harry’s poem with its uplifting and hopeful, romantic imagery of unrequited love, just pipped the post.

Our runner up, was Rosie with her vividly descriptive poem, The Sunset.

Both students were awarded with certificates and Amazon gift vouchers.

Well done to everyone who submitted a poem – positive points have been awarded to all

Poem: ARISU

Your golden hair, your lush green eyes.

Your stunning looks, simply mesmerize.

Your skills as an artist, make da Vinci blush,

Being with you gives me such a rush.

But I can’t have you,

And I don’t know what to do,

because I just want to be together,

Together forever and ever.

Your golden heart, your rosy, red smile

Your charming grin leaves me dazed for a while.

Your voice, soft like a nightingale,

When I’m with you, the sky is always blue.

No matter where we are, light years apart,

You will always have my heart.

Your lush green eyes, your golden hair,

A person like you, so very rare,

Your quiet emerald gaze,

Sets my heart ablaze.

And I want you.

And I want you to want me too,

So that I can always hear your laughter,

And we can have a happily ever after.
