Proving it's Theoretically Possible - Tom Lye (left 2001)
“I left Sweyne Park in 2001 and went to Seevic, where I got 5 A’s at A level. From there I went to Imperial College London, where I got a 1st in Theoretical Physics. My first job was with Procter and Gamble, at their washing powder factory in Grays. Two years ago, I moved on to a management consultancy, covering Logistics, Manufacturing, Planning and Purchasing, which has taken me all over the country and I also got to spend 4 months in Nigeria.
Soon I will be starting a new job with Tesco as an internal consultant.
Away from work, I have lived in West London for the past few years and have travelled as much as possible in my holiday time, and later this week I will be cycling to Paris to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK!
I always look back on my time at Sweyne Park very fondly and am grateful for the start it gave me in life; I think I owe my open minded view of the world to the environment at Sweyne Park.”

One of the First - Laura Merrell (left 2002)
Even now I still say that I was one of the first SPS pupils of 97 and I let the balloons go. Even though it was 13 years years ago, I can remember it like it was yesterday. SPS made me confident and pushed me to do more. I’m still like that in my career as a PCSO for my local area. 5½yrs have gone by and I know that SPS is very proud to have one of their students working for Essex Police.

Welcome Back!! - Lisa Charge (left 2002)
My first day at Sweyne Park School was very memorable, being the first intake of Year 7 for a brand new school. All Year 7’s participated in a celebration where balloons were released into the sky.
My main memories of SPS was being taught by exceptional staff who were always supportive and made me passionate about school and learning. I was involved in many extra curricular activities, representing the school at District Athletics, Rounders and Hockey, and participated in school performances, both drama and dance as well as behind the scenes.
Because of Sweyne Park, I feel I have had the best start to life as a young adult, giving me the motivation and experiences to further my education and find a career that I am enthusiastic and passionate about,. Now working as a teacher at Sweyne Park, I have been able to experience both the pupil and teacher aspect of the school, and it’s amazing how much SPS does for every pupil that walks through its door, supporting them through school life and preparing them for the outside world.

Giving Back Help for Children - Terry Spokes (left 1998)
I was in Year 11 when Sweyne merged with Park and I left SPS in June 1998 with A* in PE, A in Science and Bs for all other subjects.
I went to SEEVIC to take A levels in Psychology (A), Human Biology (A) and English Language (B).
I joined Bath University as an Undergraduate in Psychology – where I got a 1st. From there I went to the Institute of Psychiatry in London and worked with the CAMH (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) Team for a year. I am currently working on a 3 year doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Oxford which will finish in September.
“I really enjoyed my time at SPS – especially being part of the many sports teams. I am a firm believer that you can achieve anything in life if you put in some hard work. Sweyne Park School gave me a good all round education”.

Once in a Lifetime Opportunity - Yeshaswini Emmi (left 2008)
This summer, I went on an experience that has changed my life. About a year ago the Sweyne Park School nominated me to go on the Global Young Leaders Conference to America – Washington, D.C and New York. During this amazing 12-day experience, I met 197 people from at least one hundred different countries: I had the opportunity to make each and every one of these people my close friends.
The conference itself consisted of meeting and having discussions with speakers from a wide variety of backgrounds (the United Nations, the World Bank, Ambassadors of the US, etc) about global politics, economics and current affairs. We also held simulations, where real-life situations were created; we were assigned specific roles and accordingly we had to solve the given issue. One of these simulations was held in the United Nations itself. The speaker that I found the most interesting was Dr. Gary Weaver. His talk on cross-cultural communication was nothing short of inspiring. This amazing opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime thing (and it helps a whole lot with your CV, too) and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who has the chance to take it up.
OXFORD SUCCESS!! - 2nd September 2009
Laura French has just heard that she has achieved the necessary A-levels (4 As) to take up her place at Wadham College, Oxford University to study French and English. Laura left Sweyne Park School 2 years ago with 10A*s and 2As and is thrilled with the prospect of getting to Oxford. Laura commented “I am incredibly proud and want to thank all my family and teachers over the years who have helped me so much.”
Andy Hodgkinson, Headteacher, who also studied French at Oxford said, “I am delighted for Laura. She always worked hard and was incredibly gifted. She thoroughly deserves her success. Last year another ex-pupil, Vicky Turner, graduated from Cambridge with a first in French and so it is lovely that we are carrying on the tradition!”
SUPERB PUPIL SUCCESS - July 2007
We were delighted to hear from Vicky Turner, an ex-pupil who left Sweyne Park in 2004, and to learn that she had achieved a First from Cambridge University in Modern Languages!
It is always lovely to hear from ex-pupils later on in life and, if you know of any other successes which you would like to tell us about, we would be delighted if you would contact the school to celebrate their success.
EX PUPIL AT THE ECHO - January 13th 2005
Year 9, 10 & 11 pupils enjoyed a change to their timetable on Thursday, January 13th. Ex-pupil Anthony Jones, who now works with the Echo as an Area Sales Co-ordinator, came into school with reporter colleague Rob Pritchard. They spoke to Year 10 & 11 Media Studies pupils about how the Echo operates as a media institution.

The variety of roles and opportunities available within the Echo organisation fascinated the pupils and both Anthony and Rob were bombarded with questions after their presentations about the range of jobs and experiences in which they had participated.
A keen group from Year 9 had volunteered for a workshop on newspaper writing and created some excellent articles on recent events and issues close to their hearts. A return visit has been promised by both Anthony and Rob, which we all look forward to.
LIFE AS A SCIENCE STUDENT
Tom Lye left Sweyne Park School in 2002. He studied A levels at SEEVIC and pursued a degree in Physics with Theoretical Physics. Here is a summary of his first year.
"In my first year I was lucky enough to be in probably the plushest hall in London, Beit Hall, next door to the Royal Albert Hall, and just over the road from the Blacket Laboratory. Because space is tight in London many rooms are shared. I share with my roommate, Matt, a great guy.
The course itself consisted of around 20 - 25 hours a week `Contact Time', which was made up of lectures, seminars, classwork, tutorials and lab time. We also had around 15 - 20 hours work to do in our own time.
As part of my Seminar work I did a presentation of Fusion Power (like the inside of the sun) and experiments into fusion power. I visited the world's largest experimental fusion reactor, JET, (Joint European Torus) in Calum in Oxfordshire. I had a great time overall, an excellent year.
This year I'm staying in West Ealing (about 6 miles from uni) in a great house with three mates."
Emma Jagger
Emma Jagger, ex Sweyne Park pupil, was awarded gold medals for her performances on bars and beam at a FIG Regional Championship.
Steven Jones and Tom Corbet
Ex-Sweyne Park pupils Steven Jones and Tom Corbet were a vital part of the victorious SEEVIC seven-a-side team who gained a place in the British Colleges finals at Loughborough.
