Pupils follow the national curriculum core subjects and options, usually in mainstream classes, with additional support in lessons from Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Communicators or Special Support Assistants.
We discuss every pupil’s option choices with them and their parents before final decisions have to be made to ensure that pupils follow a broad and challenging but manageable curriculum with sufficient time for additional support.
All pupils will have tutorials in the Resource Base to consolidate what they have learned in class, for additional speech and language work and auditory training, and to enable hearing aids and radio aids to be checked.
HOME LEARNING
Pupils will be set home learning each week for subjects studied in the Resource Base and will be offered assistance with any subject that they have difficulties with, either in tutorial time or at workshops after school.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Pupils will be encouraged to join in clubs and activities after school, including revision sessions and the Resource Base workshop and sign language classes, and to take part in trips organised by subject departments. Information is given to pupils about external agencies for deaf people, including those which provide opportunities for pupils to join in activities for young deaf adults.
