You will enjoy this course if you want to study a subject that involves:

- Listening and analysing music from a variety of genres, including: dance, Britpop, Grunge, Classical, Romantic, Minimalism and others.

Music GCSE is an excellent way to prepare for further study in music including: Music, Popular Music, Music Technology and Performing Arts.
You may wish to take music for its own sake to develop skills which you can use and enjoy for the rest of your life, or go on to a job where it is useful to have had experience of music, such as careers in the music industry, publishing, entertaining and teaching or any job which requires communication and expressive skills.
Pupils choosing this course, will be expected to be able to play an Pupils choosing this course will be expected to be able to play an instrument before beginning the course, or commit to learning an instrument of their choice throughout the duration of the 2 years. Lessons are available through Essex Music Services and are taught on the school premises, although some pupils may opt to have private lessons outside of school. Lessons are £49.50 per term; subsidised lessons may be available at a cost of £15.50 per term if you are in receipt of Income Support, Job-Seeker’s Allowance or Family Credit. Pupils will receive a 15 minute one to one lesson.

- All Vocalists/Singers – are required to attend choir on a weekly basis as part of Performing During the course (part of EDEXCEL specification)
- All instrumentalists are required to attend Orchestra, organise their own band practice/group practice as part of Performing During the course (part of EDEXCEL specification)
- Individual practice – to maintain a high level of solo performing
HOW PARENTS CAN HELP
Be supportive in pupil’s uptake of instrumental lessons and encourage practice at home.
Encourage attendance of music activities.
SECURING SUCCESS
Pupils who cannot prepare practical work at home will be expected to do this during lunch breaks or after school. Pupils can book extra sessions in music rooms, the computer suite or with music staff whenever it is needed.
