Physical Education in Years 10 and 11 follows the National Curriculum Key Stage 4. The pupils will be offered a range of activities from which they will focus on at least one. The range may include the following:

Games
Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball
pe
Gym Activities
Aerobics, Health Related Fitness, Dance, Gymnastics
Athletic Activities
Track and Field Events
Swimming
Personal Survival, Life Saving, Health Related Fitness - Water Polo - Water Aerobics
Sponsored 4 mile event, Pilates, Aerobics, Yoga.
Students will cover a unit of work on leadership in sport.

The emphasis is placed on the extension of skills and the development of knowledge and understanding of the activities. Pupils are also given the opportunity to become involved in the organisation and officiating within their own year group as well as Years 7, 8 and 9. Participation and the wearing of school kit are compulsory and pupils are expected to bring their kit to lessons even when they are unable to take part in an activity through injury or illness; they will then be given the opportunity to participate in an appropriate activity. In the case of more serious illness or injuries, exceptions will be made, although a prolonged inability to take part should be covered by a doctor’s Medical Note.

There will be the opportunity for pupils to take part in extra courses, such as officiating and coaching. Pupils on the flexible and integrated pathways will have 2 lessons of PE a week.

HOME LEARNING

Written home learning is not usually set in Physical Education, although pupils may be asked to research or practise a task during the week.

EDUCATION EXTRA, SUPPORT AND TRIPS

Through the Education Extra Programme pupils can participate in a range of clubs and activities before, during and after school. There is also a number of trips organised by the department covering activities that are of an indoor, outdoor or watersports nature, plus opportunities to lead small groups of young pupils from partner primary schools..

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP

We have enjoyed excellent parent support in Physical Education and would very much like to see this continue by welcoming parental involvement in Education Extra activities. It is also essential that all pupils bring the correct kit to every lesson in order to keep participation at a maximum.

SECURING SUCCESS

Through offering choice, pupils have the opportunity to select activities in which they perform favourably. Staff will support individual difficulties. The Educational Extra programme offers activities that both extend the able and support those pupils at a more basic level of performance.
