COURSE CONTENT

The Citizenship and Religious Education (CRE) course is followed by all pupils in Years 10 and 11. It is designed to prepare pupils for the changes in their lives which will occur when they leave Sweyne Park School in the summer of 2011 and provide them with the personal skills that they will need in the 21st century. The course fulfils the school's obligation to deliver Religious Education to all pupils in Key Stage 4 in line with the Essex Agreed syllabus. At the end of the course pupils in the top 3 sets of the Traditional Pathway are strongly encouraged to take the AQA Religious Education (short course) GCSE, while other pupils are able to opt in to do the examination. It is via CRE that Sweyne Park fulfils its statutory duty to deliver Sex & Relationships Education.

cre

Over the two years pupils will address a wide range of personal and social issues which they will encounter on a personal level, and in their role as a citizen of the UK. In particular the RE element of the course looks at personal identity, relationships, sport & leisure, work, human rights and living in a multi cultural society. Within each unit of work pupils are provided with up to date information and a variety of perspectives, in particular that of the Christian faith. Pupils are then encouraged to examine and reflect on their own personal beliefs, values and attitudes in light of what they have learnt.
